The Raven
Mullins Studio was in a period of desolation during the 2008 recession, two months behind in rent payments and no new projects for weeks we were at a breaking point. My friend Dave Beery encouraged me with the events of Elijah where God faithfully provided for him in his wilderness desolation using ravens to bring bread and meat to him every morning and evening. My wife Chris and I decided to contact our landlord the next day and ask to be released from the three year lease of our downtown studio gallery. The landlord said he had a dream about us the night before and felt God was telling him to let us out of our commitment but to just pay him for the back rent. That week a friend in our church gave us a thousand dollars to help, I sold two eighteen hundred dollar photographs as well and we were able to get back on our feet. Well Chris was so excited that God had provided for us that she said she would get a raven tattoo to commemorate what happened. Well she chickened out even though a tattoo artist was the tenant that moved into our space after we left.
This painting of the raven is my memorial to Gods provision and goodness. The background colors of red (representing Jesus and His sacrifice for our sins) the blue (representing the Holy Spirit and living waters) and then the gold (representing the father as king) form a composition of the cross. Reflected in the ravens eye is the cross of Christ as he looks to the father. If God uses the unclean raven to provide for His children He can also use those who are despised and thought not worthy to meet the needs of others.
God is good, wise, powerful and faithful to meet any need. I am totally satisfied and content in Him.
